Minocqua's City Park, in the heart of Wisconsin's Northwoods, provided for a sufficient rest stop before continuing to Ironwood, MI and the Porcupine Mountains. The final 60 miles of road introduced me to the stunning scenery of Northern Michigan's West Coast. At one point, I noticed the astonishing sight of warm sand dunes and a lake still occupied with large chunks of ice.
Initially, my intent was to 'rough it' by tent camping. After a long day's drive, pulling into the 'Sunshine Motel', and having a chance to scout out downtown Otonogan and the best angles to photograph the lighthouse, was worth the extra bucks. I had a traditional pasty and coleslaw, photographed the lighthouse at dusk, and captured a magnificent sunset across from the motel (wading through earthy-smelling water in the process), before fallings asleep early enough for an easy 4A wake up. The fun was just beginning.
